Program status: discontinued as a standalone program. The Maryland Energy Administration did not offer this program on its own in fiscal year 2026. It was known in earlier years as the Parking Lot Solar Photovoltaic Canopy with EV Chargers Grant Program.

Funding for solar canopies now sits inside the Commercial and Canopy Solar Program (MEA page), which merged this program with MEA’s Commercial Solar Grant Program and covers rooftop-mounted and ground-mounted systems as well as canopies over parking areas or bodies of water. Two differences matter when comparing it against the terms below: a participating parking facility must now be “EV ready” but no longer has to install EV charging equipment alongside the canopy, and the combined program serves a narrower list of eligible applicants. Its fiscal year 2026 budget has been exhausted; MEA's current offerings are listed on its grants and incentives page.

Who could apply: Maryland businesses, non-profit organisations and other organisations that own or operate eligible commercial facilities. This program was not open to homeowners. Maryland's current residential solar rebate is the Maryland Solar Access Program.

Status verified against the Maryland Energy Administration's own current and archived program pages on 28 October 2026. The description below is kept for reference and describes the program as it operated while it was open; its figures are historical and are no longer available.

Historical program description (fiscal year 2021 terms)

Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) offers grants for installing solar photovoltaic (PV) over parking lots with electric vehicle (EV) chargers.  The system must install a minimum of 75 kW of solar mounted on a canopy structure over the parking lot with a minimum of four qualified Level II or Level III EV chargers. The program offers grant up to $600 per kW of PV installed with a maximum cap of $300,000 per project. Total fund of $1.6 million is available for FY 2021 for the program.

The project must be located in a parking lot in Maryland which is accessible for use at least five days a week. Systems must be net-metered. Please visit the program website for more information.
