Montana-Dakota Utilities offers rebates to residential natural gas customers who upgrade their heating equipment. Customers can receive $300 for replacing an existing furnace with a high-efficiency model rated at 95% AFUE or higher. There are also thermostat rebates: $15 for a Tier 1 programmable thermostat (with at least four daily time settings and a 5-1-1 or 5-2 schedule, installed with a qualifying furnace), and $60 for a Tier 2 Wi-Fi thermostat that can be controlled remotely. These rebates are only for existing homes—not new construction or fuel conversions—and funding is limited each year. Applications are processed in the order they’re received, and rebates are not guaranteed once funds run out. See website for additional details.
