Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) provides residential natural gas customers rebates for upgrading to energy-efficient equipment in eligible homes. NPU offers rebates of between $250 - $3000 for natural gas furnaces, boilers, and water heaters which are installed in single-family or two-family homes. Minimum efficiency requirements (listed above and available on the program application) must be met in order to be eligible for rebates.  NPU also offers a rebate program for its electric customers.  Visit the utility's website for more information.

Electric customers

NPU offers residential electric customers rebates on ENERGY STAR-qualified appliances and energy-efficient HVAC equipment. Eligible purchases include refrigerators and freezers, washing machines, air conditioners, and heat pump or storage water heaters, limited to one rebate per appliance per residential electric account. Rebates are also available for central air conditioning systems and heat pumps, with amounts varying by equipment size and efficiency level.

Separately, NPU customers may be eligible for the Residential Home Energy Savings Program, which is free of charge. An NPU technician visits the home, may run a blower door test to find and seal air leaks, replaces incandescent bulbs, installs low-flow shower heads and sink aerators, wraps hot water pipes and inspects energy use — all at no cost.

What NPU currently lists

NPU now runs both fuels from a single residential efficiency hub, which lists: the Electric Appliance Rebate Program; the Natural Gas Installation & Rebate Program; the Residential Home Energy Savings Program; Cool Choice & CHIPP, for switching to more efficient heating and cooling; a Smart Thermostat Rebate Program; a Wall or Attic Insulation Program; an E-Bike & E-Scooter Rebate Program for electric customers; an Electric Vehicle & Charging Rebate Program; Alternative Transportation Fuels information; and Solar Installation Information.

Merged from the separate electric record on 28 October 2026, whose own URL had gone to a 404. The programme list above was read from NPU's live hub the same day. The fuel qualifier was dropped from the title because this record now covers both.
